RICHARD MADDEN

Richard Madden’s musical journey started way back in his first year of high school.  His first guitar was ‘a hunk of wood with wire’ but it didn’t matter, he had caught the bug. Apart from a few guitar lessons early on, Richard remains fundamentally a self-taught musician. He spent many hours of his formative years listening and learning from records, training his ear and developing his skill, picking out tunes, jamming with mates on the weekend.

The origins of Richard Madden, the solo artist, began in late 2005 when good friend John Hardaker offered him a support slot at his record launch. It was the albatross that broke the camel’s back. Armed with a handful of original songs and a little blind faith, Richard Madden & his band cemented their live reputation early on. As the word started to spread, a steady flow of gigs followed including supports for Steve Prestwich, Jim Moginie, Kevin Borich, Mal Eastick and Ian Moss and in 2006 released a live recording – ‘Rockin’ the Vanguard’.

2008 saw the release of Richard’s much-anticipated debut studio album, ‘Force of Nature’.

In August 2010, Richard and band, including Curtis DeVille on drums and Mark Deayton on bass, headed up to the Southern Highlands to record what would become ‘Second Nature’. All backing tracks and 80% of overdubs were recorded in three days with Syd Green engineering. Additional overdubs including horns and harmonica from David Blight were laid down shortly thereafter. For various reasons, the album sat in the archives unplayed and unmixed until early 2020 when Ben Worsey was recruited to begin the process of reassembling the tracks. Additional piano parts were recorded by Lachy Doley in June 2020, mastered by Cefe Flynn 2021 and released December 2021.
